Description
Self-aligning ball bearings have a spherical raceway in the outer ring with a center of curvature matched with the bearing center. This allows the inner ring, balls, and cage to rotate freely around the bearing center, maintaining alignment.
Self-aligning ball bearings are constructed with two rows of balls, a common sphered raceway in the outer ring, and two deep uninterrupted raceway grooves in the inner ring. They are available in both open and sealed formats. The bearings are unaffected by angular misalignment of the shaft relative to the housing (fig. 1), which can be induced by shaft deflection, for example.
